LISTEN TO EPISODE 1
Food Focus: Apples
Apples contain a long list of phytonutrients that function as antioxidants and support our heart health.
To take full advantage of the antioxidants in apples, it’s important to include the skins. Since the skins are exposed to the outside world and possible contaminants I recommend purchasing organically or locally. As we don’t want unwanted pesticide sprays or other contaminants on our delicious apples.
Antioxidants aren’t the only reason to include apples in a heart-supportive diet. You’ll get about 4 grams of dietary fiber in a medium sized apple, or about 15% daily value for fiber.

Food Review: Lucky Charms
So let’s break it down.
On the front of Lucky Charms we have a colorful eye catching picture and it says whole grain guaranteed and good source of calcium and vitamin D. On this box there is a new pot of gold marshmallow.
What is actually in this cereal?
Ingredients: Whole Grain Oats, Marshmallows (Sugar, Modified Corn Starch, Corn Syrup [sugar], Dextrose [sugar], Gelatin, Calcium Carbonate, Yellow 5 & 6, Blue 1, Red 40) Sugar, Oat Flour, Corn Syrup [sugar], Corn Starch, Salt, Trisodium Phosphate, Color Added and Artificial flavor.
Those marshmallows sure have a lot of sugar and dye in them. Three out of those nine ingredients are sugar and four are dye.
Okay so what I got from the front was I am suppose to get whole
grains and good source of calcium and vitamin D. When I read the
ingredients I see two things possibly giving me whole grains which is
the whole grain oats and the oat flour. Not so sure what kind of grains
your really getting there or vitamins in that matter…..most of the ingredients are basically sugar and unknown ingredients.
Do you really want to put that in your body? What I’m trying to point out here is that their marketing team does a really good job masking what is really in the cereal by putting pretty pictures and words on the front of the box.
I don’t know about you but that opened my eyes to what was really in that cereal. I definitely won’t be picking up a box of lucky charms any time soon.
Affirmation of the Week:
I WELCOME CHANGE
CHANGE IS FULL OF OPPORTUNITIES FOR ME
Tip of the Week:
Take the avocados that you want to ripen faster and put them in
a sealed brown paper bag overnight. When you wake up the next
morning the avocados should be noticeably softer. If you want them
softer leave them in longer.
